A newsroom that answers to Kanpur.
We report from the city, for the people who live and work in it. No syndicated filler, no rewritten press notes passed off as coverage.
Kanpur deserves reporting that starts here, not in another city.
For a city of close to three million people, Kanpur has been covered mostly as an afterthought. Regional bureaus file from Lucknow, national desks arrive for the flood season and leave, and the day to day of the city goes largely unreported.
KANews.in started because that gap has a cost. When nobody covers the ward meeting, the tender that follows goes unexamined. When nobody sits through the board sitting, the revised alignment appears as a decision already made.
We are a small newsroom. We will not cover everything. What we will do is show up consistently to the places where decisions about this city get made, and write down what happens there in plain language.
How we work
Reported, not aggregated
Every story carries a byline and a named desk. If we could not verify something, we say so in the piece rather than burying the hedge mid paragraph.
Corrections in the open
Mistakes get corrected at the top of the story with a note on what changed and when. We do not quietly edit and move on.
Reachable reporters
Every story ends with a way to reach the desk. If you were in the room and we got it wrong, tell us.
What we cover
The city desk
Civic works, planning, water, power and the municipal decisions that reach your street first.
Politics and business
Ward politics, the assembly seats around Kanpur, and the trades that keep the local economy running.
Everything else
Education, crime, sport, food and festivals. The parts of the city that rarely make a regional bulletin.
