Chunniganj market traders push back on the new parking levy

Shopkeepers say the revised rate will push customers to the malls, and have asked for a graded structure based on hours parked.

Traders at Chunniganj market have written to the municipal body opposing the revised parking rate that took effect this month.

The new structure charges a flat rate regardless of duration, which traders say penalises the short visits that make up most of their footfall.

The association has proposed a graded rate instead, with the first thirty minutes free. The municipal body has said it will review the structure after one quarter.
